XDU in Baltimore, MD
August 10, 2011
Once again a quality show was put on by Xplor. We had two vendor speakers
and two end user speakers, and Skip.
It should be mentioned that on Tuesday Evening, the night before the XDU
meeting, we held an 'Old Timer's Gathering' which was open to all members of
Xplor International. While we had only 6 attendees, we had a lot of fun and a
lot of reminiscing of friends old and new. We toasted long time member Barry
Lietuvnikas who passed away this past April, something we were sure he would
like. And we laughed and cried over news of our long-time Xplor friends.
Wednesday found us getting started with the meeting at 9 AM with some
opening remarks by Skip. I will do my best to outline the presentations in this
document.

Print Grows Trees
Paul Foster
Campaign - direct link between using paper and sustainable management of
forests
Targeted to consumers
Industry plants a couple of billion trees a year
THINK before we DON'T print
65% of all paper in the U.S. is currently recycled
Paper decomposes in 2-4 weeks
Average data center serving electronic devices consumes the same amount of
energy as 25,000 households
By 2018 printing related jobs are projected to decline by 16% and newspaper
publishing jobs by 23.2%

PRINT. The renewable way a responsible world communicates.
"Print Grows Trees" is an educational campaign that uses facts to show that
print on paper actually helps to grow trees and keep our forests from being sold
for development. By connecting the dots between print and the private
landowners who own almost 60 percent of U.S. woodlands, "Print Grows Trees"
challenges the widely held belief that by using less paper, trees will be saved.
